Dr Smile Clear Aligners Frequently asked questions

Our personal experiences, but above all the success stories of our clients, strengthen our goal of bringing even more smiles to your face.

The DrSmile team is made up of experts from various backgrounds. We are particularly proud of the expertise and day-to-day support of our dentists, orthodontics and dental technicians. The entire DrSmile team ensures that our customers receive all-round professional care. Our modern technologies were developed in Germany and meet the highest quality standards, as well as all the materials used, which are medically-teste

After you have found out in our “Am I eligible?” test whether our aligner treatment is suitable for you, you can make an appointment in a DrSmile specialist dental practice. Your DrSmile consultant will support you in this process and will be available to answer all your questions about the treatment.

During your appointment at Borough Dental Care, you will be thoroughly advised and examined by our qualified staff. With the help of a modern 3D scanner, your teeth will be precisely measured and your preferences about your perfect smile will be discussed. The appointment is free of charge and without any obligation.

To give you a visual impression of what your teeth will look like after the treatment, we create a before-and-after simulation of your teeth. Approximately 2 weeks after your appointment, you will receive your simulation and individual treatment plan, which also contains all information about the duration and costs of the treatment. Only after you have confirmed the plan, will the treatment begin.

On the basis of the simulation the required number of aligners is produced and sent to you within a few weeks. You should wear the invisible aligners 22 hours a day and change them every 14 days. Your teeth are moved step by step into the desired position.

In addition to your personal DrSmile advisor, our app helps you to document your progress and clarify any questions you may have at all times. The app is free. It reminds you to change your aligners and send regular pictures of your teeth to our DrSmile experts. Visiting the DrSmile clinic is only necessary in the event of discomforts or complaints.

The pricing for your DrSmile treatment is based on the complexity of the teeth movement needed to achieve the desired result. The duration of the treatment and the number of aligners varies accordingly and will be clarified in your treatment plan: transparent and explicitly. There are no costs beyond the price presented in the treatment plan.

You can pay the price conveniently either in one single payment or monthly with instalments. Our team will work with you to find a suitable solution for your needs.

The costs of a treatment are calculated with the information gathered during the initial consultation on the basis of the dental fee guide and classified as S, M or L treatment. As a rule, the costs are between £1,390 – £2,090.

In the very unlikely event that the cost of treatment exceeds £2,090, you will be informed explicitly before the treatment begins.

We have already completed numerous successful treatments and know about the amazing possibilities of our treatment method.

We assume that you are actively involved and wear your aligners 22 hours a day. Our app supports you with this. It reminds you to change your dental aligners and enables you to contact our experts in a convenient way. In addition, you can upload your photos in regular intervals to document your personal progress.

Should the desired result not be achieved despite your good cooperation, we will cover the costs for additional aligners and the revision of your treatment plan.

Aligners are transparent, individually fitted for the almost invisible treatment of malpositioned teeth. Using modern 3D technology, we create a before-and-after simulation of your teeth, on the basis of which we manufacture the required number of aligner pairs.

DrSmile aligners are made of dimensionally stable, thermoplastic material which is approved for medical use (ISO 9001:2015). They are free of plasticizers (BPA) and other harmful substances.

TÜV Saarland and Ekomi cooperate in the form of a joint customer evaluation programme. The TÜV seal of approval “Customer Rating Overall Evaluation” is subject to strict conditions, quality and TÜV MONITOR criteria. The seal can only be used without conspicuousness in the eKomi Fraud-Protection.
Yes, aligners can be worn by anyone over the age of 18.
Your teeth should be free of caries, calculus and other dental diseases. Bad breath can also be a sign of a dental disease and should always be checked medically before starting treatment.
Our treatment is aimed specifically at adults over 18 years. We do not offer treatment for children and adolescents.
There is nothing preventing bleaching during the treatment. DrSmile has developed a special bleaching set which you can use in the comfort of your own home.
To achieve your desired result, you should wear your aligners 22 hours a day. The total wearing time varies between 6 – 12 months.
The simple answer is: Yes! Aligner technology has proven itself and evolved over decades. Today, it is one of the most significant alternatives to fixed and loose braces.
Yes, because the retainer secures the result of your aligner treatment.
You can comfortably pay in installments or make a single payment. The price of your aligners varies depending on the malposition of your teeth.
For a treatment with transparent aligners, your teeth and gums should be healthy. Caries or inflammation of the gums should therefore be treated beforehand.
Yes, the first consultation is free and without any obligation. Your DrSmile dentist will answer all your questions about your treatment. Your teeth will also be examined and digitally analysed.
You can easily take the aptitude test online. It contains 4 questions about your teeth. The test only takes a few minutes and the result will be sent to you by e-mail.
With a crown, treatment is usually not a problem. If you are missing one or more teeth, you will have to take a dental impression in each individual case to see whether a treatment is possible for you. In the case of a bridge, treatment is unfortunately not possible, as it makes it much more difficult to move the teeth.
If you are taking certain medications or are pregnant, your gums may be much softer and therefore more susceptible to inflammation. In this case, you should check with your dentist beforehand to see if a treatment with dental aligners is possible.

Does Insurance Cover Invisalign in the UK: All You Need to Know

does insurance cover invisalign in the uk

Traditional metal braces are no longer the only way to straighten your teeth. Traditional wire braces aside, there are other options available.

One popular, safe, and very effective treatment chosen by young professionals in London are Invisalign adult braces.

So it’s no wonder, more and more people are pondering the question: Does insurance cover Invisalign?

This is an orthodontic treatment that uses transparent tooth aligners made in aligner trays with not a wire and bracket brace insight.

If you have previously discounted Invisalign as an option because of the expense, but are still on the lookout for cheaper ways to afford braces in London, keep reading.

Orthodontic braces can be a very successful treatment. However, suppose you have previously been deterred by the cost of Invisalign clear aligners.

In that case, it may still be possible for you to have the smile you’ve always wanted without incurring high one-off costs. In light of that does insurance cover Invisalign? Let’s dive in and consider the question.

Invisalign Braces: Tell Me More

At your initial free consultation, you and your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth to determine if you can have non-invasive Invisalign braces.

If you’re suitable, your dentist will create a bespoke treatment plan for you that maps the movement of your teeth over a period of time.

Your dentist will take a mould of your teeth, used to create a 3D model of your teeth using a computer. Individual aligner trays are made for you to use at all the different stages of straightening your teeth to achieve your ideal smile.

These will gradually adjust your teeth. The beauty of invisible aligners is that they’re comfortable, easy to remove, and straightforward to clean and floss your teeth in the usual way. Then, you just remove the aligners when you need to.

Typically, you will receive new aligners every fortnight, and you will be able to see the results pretty quickly. Invisalign treatment isn’t painful. However, you may experience a bit of an adjustment period each time you change to new aligners.

Your dentist monitors your progress every step of the way to ensure your aligners are doing their job correctly. Then, they can make any necessary adjustments.

Invisalign Cost in the UK

Having braces is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, we offer a bespoke treatment plan. Depending on your particular case, costs will be somewhere between £2,100 and £5,500.

The cost largely depends on:

  • The amount of prep work needed before your treatment starts
  • How many appointments you will need with your dentist before and after your braces are fitted.

Compared to the cost of metal braces, which cost £1,500 – £2,500, it may seem a little steeper.

However, there are affordable payment options to consider, particularly if you’re looking for a more discreet, stylish and less intrusive alternative to metal braces. These are just some of the many benefits of Invisalign.

What Can Invisalign Fix?

Invisalign braces can be used to treat several common problems patients experience with their teeth. These include:

  • Crossbite: when there is a difference between your bottom and top set of teeth, so they are noticeably misaligned or uneven.
  • Deep bite: If the top set of your teeth overlap, your bottom set a lot, even when your mouth is closed
  • Overcrowded teeth: If you need more room on your jaw because there isn’t enough space to fit all your teeth without them overlapping, and you need more room as a result
  • Underbite: When your bottom set of teeth considerably overlap your top set, even when your mouth is closed
  • Widely spaced teeth: if you have a noticeable gap between several teeth

The simplest way to find out if you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign and wearing aligner trays is to talk to us at your initial consultation about the possibilities.

Does Insurance Cover Invisalign?

If you are suitable, your medical insurance may cover some of the costs. However, suppose you already have medical insurance.

In that case, it is worth having a detailed look at your policy to see if it covers this particular treatment and cosmetic dentistry, which this falls under.

Alternatively, you can speak to your policy provider to find out exactly what type of dental treatments are covered, and if you are covered, what, if anything, would you have to contribute to the costs.

Many insurance companies will have a ceiling on how much you can claim each year for cosmetic dentistry, so it’s worth checking what that is in your case.

Are There Any Other Payment Options Available?

The good news is that you can pay monthly for your Invisalign braces at our dental centre.

If you consider a payment plan as an affordable means of having Invisalign braces in London, talk to one of our four Invisalign dentists at the centre. They’ll be more than happy to explain all the possible payment options.

One possibility is to set up a monthly payment plan with your dentist. This will typically be over a period of 12 or 24 months.

Suppose you decide to go ahead with Invisalign braces after your initial free consultation. In that case, you will be asked to make a downpayment before any treatment begins.

Affordable monthly payment plans are a manageable way of paying for your Invisalign braces without necessarily feeling the cost.

This is especially the case if your medical insurance does not cover this type of treatment or you don’t have medical insurance.

It is also worth asking us about any Invisalign offers we may have at the time of your initial free consultation.

Dentist

Dentists are the frontline of good oral health. They work with communities to prevent and treat dental/oral disease, correct dental irregularities and treat dental/facial injuries.

Working life

You’ll lead the dental team using the the skills and confidence gained through world-class training to diagnose and treat dental problems. You’ll provide advice to patients and use high levels of manual dexterity to carry out complex surgical and dental procedures.

Your training will lead to an excellent knowledge of human anatomy and oral disease while giving you the best clinical skills to help your patients.

Your work is increasingly about, protecting teeth and preventing gums from decay and disease. You’re likely to work in your local community but you’ll also have the chance to work in a variety of areas:

General dental care

Most dentists work as general dental practitioners (GDPs), usually in a high street practice, providing dental care to the general public. You can largely choose where you work but you may need to be flexible with your working hours.

You may practise either under the NHS or privately, or both. You could also work part time in hospitals and some go into clinical teaching.

Dental care is provided in community settings for patients who have difficulty getting treatment in their high street dental practice.

You mighe be looking after young children who need special help, as well as elderly and people who are housebound or with severe physical disabilities or mental illness. This can be demanding and rewarding work. You might be able to balance this work managerial and research duties. You can also be involved in working with schools doing screening and in studies of oral health.

You’ll work in a variety of locations such as a patient’s own home, nursing homes, community clinics and mobile clinics. You’ll also work with a wider clinical team including school nurseshealth visitors and district nurses.

Dental public health

Dental public health is a specialty which involves assessing dental health needs and ensuring dental services meet those needs. Your work will look to improve the dental health of communities rather than individuals.

 Hospital dental care

Being a dentist in a hospital usually means working in the following areas:

  • offering consultant advice and treatment for cases referred to hospitals or for patients admitted to hospital as a result of trauma or disease
  • dental care and treatment for patients in hospital for a long time
  • dental care for patients in hospital for a shorter period where pain relief of treatment is needed as part of their general care
  • treatment of out-patients

Working in a specialist dental hospital covers:

  • oral and maxillofacial surgery
  • oral surgery
  • orthodontics
  • paediatric dentistry
  • restorative dentistry

Visit our hospital dental services page to find out more.

You’ll likely to see fewer patients than general dental practitioners, but treatment is usually more complex. You’ll generally work as part of a team and have access to specialised knowledge and facilities.

Armed forces dentists

Another option for graduates in dentistry is to join the armed forces as a dental officer. You have the option of joining the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force.

You will receive full officer training and be required to commit for a minimum period of around six years. However, the salary (and benefits) can be substantial and sometimes grants are available to help pay for university costs if you are accepted before graduation.

You’ll have access to the latest equipment and appointment times are usually longer than in a typical NHS practice. You’ll need to be flexible with location and can expect to move several times, both in the UK and abroad. Perhaps the most important factor to take into account is that as a dental office in the armed forces, you are always a military officer first and a dental officer second.

Entry requirements

Becoming a dentist involves at least five years’ study at dental school, followed by one or two years of supervised practice. Most entrants will require three As at A-level, although one year pre-dental courses are offered by some dental schools.

Find out more about training to be a dentist.

Pay and benefits

Most NHS dentists working in dental practices are self-employed contractors. The profit of dental practices varies according to the services they provide for their patients and the way they choose to provide these services. Find out more about the pay for dentists.
